I was drooling over vinyl snakeskin here one day when I found the link to the new DistinctiveFabric.com blog.
That’s when the inspiration struck me. I love fabric more than any human being on the planet (and have a stash to prove it!), I love funky fabric most of all and DistinctiveFabric.com is a funky-fake-fur lifeline. I also love to write. But most importantly, one of my New Year’s resolutions was to find more outlets for my creative writing. A lightbulb went on in my head, and after a couple of emails up and back, I'm in! Now I’m going to be posting to the blog a few times a week.
I started sewing when I was knee-high. The first official project I made was a shorts set with shorts of denim with bananas (who knows why) overprinted. The top matched, except the body was plain denim and the sleeves were bell-shaped and of the banana fabric. Boy did I love that outfit. (I also learned that denim doesn’t stretch enough to make a top like that – getting it off and on was quite a challenge.)
I took up quilting right after graduate school – I saw a Quilt-In-A-Day demo on TV one day and that’s all it took. I started sewing for my son when he came along in 1990, and now sew for and with my daughter, 8, and for my little boy, 6.
I make amazing Halloween costumes – it’s my favorite holiday – and made a few interesting things to wear to my first visit to Burning Man. (Fake fur heaven ….)
Whether you’re just getting started sewing, or are experienced and tackling something challenging, pleas ask any questions you may have. I’m sure we can figure it out together.
I live in Silicon Valley and, like you, have embraced the Web to find anything I want, any time of day.
Like that snakeskin vinyl – imagine a cute little jumper on a third grader. Now that’s cool.
